How to measure

Multiply the width by the height of the front, in feet. A 6 ft by 7 ft wardrobe is 42 sq ft. A loft is measured the same way: a 6 ft wide, 2 ft tall loft adds 12 sq ft. Sliding wardrobes are measured the same way but usually carry a premium for the track system.

Which finish to choose

  • Laminate: most durable for the money and hides scratches. The best choice for kids' rooms and guest rooms.
  • Acrylic: high-gloss and modern, but shows fingerprints. Popular for master bedrooms.
  • PU lacquer: smooth painted look in any colour; needs gentle cleaning.
  • Veneer: real wood grain; needs polishing every few years.

What changes the price beyond the finish

  • Plywood grade: BWR or BWP plywood costs more than MR but holds up better in Bengaluru's damp monsoon months, especially on walls shared with a bathroom.
  • Internal accessories: pull-out trays, trouser racks and lockers can add 10–25%.
  • Hardware: soft-close hinges and branded fittings cost more but last longer.
  • Profile handles or handle-less design add a little; glass or mirror shutters add more.
